A fine copy of the Folio Society limited edition of Metamorphoses illustrated with 16 tipped in colour plates, two of which are folding, from paintings by Titian. Copy no 1553/2750. The book is bound in full Nigerian goatskin with a gilt design by Simon Brett based on Bernini's Apollo and Daphne, on the front board. It is housed in a brown buckram solander box. It is a beautiful and high quality production with an introduction by Madeleine Forey and an essay by Michael Prodger on Titian and Ovid, which goes into detail about each of the paintings by Titian used to illustrate the book. The binding and contents are in fine condition. The clamshell box is in near fine clean sound condition with a small indentation on the top edge and very slight scuffing. Contents: pp xxxviii, 378.
