The second edition of this very scarce work, published three years after the first edition.'What Will Mrs. Grundy Say?' is an intriguing and satirical Victorian sci-fi novel, following a man who travels to a nearby planet by balloon; on this unnamed planet, he discovers that euthanasia is practiced.Written by Forbes Edward Winslow under his pseudonym 'Michael Rustoff'. Winslow was a minister, also the author of 'Hurricane Dick', 'Little Patterns', and 'What Came of a Bit of Soap'. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor rubbing to the spine. Light marks to the cloth. Spine is a little faded. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.

The first edition, first issue, with Simpkin Marshall & Co to spine.Bound in the publisher's original cloth.Extremely scarce. Written by UK minister and author Forbes Edward Winslow, under the pseudonym Michael Rustoff.'What Will Mrs. Grundy Say?' is a satirical novel telling the story of a woman described as 'A calamity on two legs'. In 'Victorian Fiction in the UK', Darko Suvin remarked that the "Narrator flies in balloon to a planet with State control and euthanasia. Spirit separated from body. Slight." (p. 47).Rustoff writes in his preface that the 'Book for Men' label on the front cover is to dissuade women from reading, due to the uncomplimentary nature of the book. Mrs. Grundy is the label given to a person who is highly concerned with moral behaviour and conventional propriety, with the title of this work suggesting she would not approve of the conduct discussed. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light soiling to cloth and slight bumping to the extremities. Rear hinge has failed, with the front hinge holding on by one or two cords. Bookseller label to front paste down and ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, binding is somewhat tender, although is holding together. Pages bright and clean, with one or two spots to the fore edge. Good. book.
