Soft cover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition/First Printing. Softcover Original. 208 pages with index. There are few Americans who would not recognize Charles Moore's most famous photographs. His images of police dogs and fire hoses being turned on demonstrators in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, became instant symbols, her and abroad, of the black struggle for equality. This book brings together the most significant pictures of the civil rights movement in the South from 1958 to 1965. Other than a small crease to the back cover top edge, this book has a near fine cover over a fine book. As new. Unread. From my smoke-free collection. Ships in well-padded box.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. In the fall of 1991 Roger de la Burdé held an exhibition of some of his art collection at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts, Anderson Gallery. This is the published catalog for the exhibit, titled "Private Stories, Selections from the de la Burdé Collection". The exhibit featured the paintings of Michael Goldberg, Rainer Gross, Jay Milder, and Jeff Way, and was was held from August 23 to October 20, 1991. A typed letter from Roger de la Burdé to a potential patron, dated September 1991, is signed in black ink by Burdé. . The de la Burdé story , itself, became anything but private, when in March of 1992 he was found dead from a bullet wound to the head. Roger de la Burdé was a controversial person, hailing from Poland, who styled himself a count. He owned considerable collections of art, focusing on African Art and Modern Art. The catalog here presented is of Contemporary Art, and has striking color reproductions of the paintings. The letter, signed by Burdé in ink, was found pressed between the leaves of the catalog, and is addressed to a potential patron of the arts and typed on his personal stationery, which has printed at the top, Roger Z. Cte de la Burdé, Windsor, Powhatan, Virginia. The letter is dated September 12, 1991. CATEGORY : Art Exhibition Catalog TITLE : Private Stories - Selections from the de la Burdé Collection ARTISTS : Michael Goldberg, Rainer Gross, Jay Milder, Jeff Way TEXT : Leslie A. CONDITION -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and presentable, with the following particulars noted :: -- Interior is clean and unmarked; there is fading along spine fold and edge - most extensive on rear cover; a small impact dent on the front cover is barely perceptible, but has extended through all the pages in a slightly more obvious manner - this is not so egregious and displays on the interior as a small dent and surface wrinkle. Hardcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 316 pp., 216 ills. hardcover - Klee and America explores the reasons for Paul Klee's enthusiastic reception in the United States, especially during the 1930s and 1940s. While the artist was targeted in Hitler's campaign against "Degenerate Art" and the European market for his work collapsed in 1933, his reputation grew among several key American collectors and museum curators, several of whom laid the groundwork for Klee's later success in the US. These critical early figures included the dealers Galka Scheyer and J.B. Neumann, the collectors Katherine Dreier and Walter and Louise Arensberg, and the founder of the Museum of Modern Art, Alfred Barr. Jr. The publication presents an impressive selection of Klee's finest "American" works from that period, including both paintings and drawings.
