Signed on front…cover by William K. Prentice (Athens 1901) and fep by I. A. Merker, both once Princeton professors. Dr. Prentice was an authority on classical inscriptions and had been a member of the Princeton University faculty for 43 years before his retirement in 1940. He was Ewing Professor of Greek Languages and Literatures at Princeton. Born in New York City, he entered Princeton at 16 and was graduated with high honors in 1892 as valedictorian of his class. Professor Prentice was named to Phi Beta Kappa when the chapter was established at Princeton. After a year of teaching at the Lawrenceville School, he studied at Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Marburg in Germany. He completed work for a Master of Arts degree while an instructor at Princeton. He received his doctorate from the University of Halle in Germany in 1900 and returned the same year to teach at Princeton. Dirty covers, 4to, 1st edn, retaped along spine which has been repaired to limited extent. Quite rare. Inscribed/ Signed by VIP othe.
