First volume (of three published) of this yearbook of Soviet photography, richly illustrated with technical drawings, graphs, tables, and photographs in the text, and an appendix with an additional 26 photographs from the exhibition "10 Years of Soviet Photography". The volume includes photographs by pioneers of Soviet photography such as Aleksandr Rodchenko, Abram Shternberg, as well as the Soviet-Ukrainian cinematographer Danylo Demutskyi, who famously worked with the avant-garde master filmmaker Aleksandr Dovzhenko. Includes articles on history of photography, the development of Soviet photo industry, technical articles on photographic emulsion, camera lenses, as well as advice on lighting, composition, use of light filters etc. Articles in the volume include contributions by major Soviet photographers such as the founder of the journal Sovetskoe foto (Soviet Photo), Nikolai Yermilov, Arkadii Shaikhet, visual artists such as Nikolai Troshin and Oleksandr Deineka, as well as documentary film maker Grigorii Boltianskii.
