Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl LP record, Priority Records SL-9755, near-mint vinyl in original plastic inner sleeve, in a very-good-plus glossy cardboard jacket. Includes unused foldable cardboard "stand-up" insert. This group of animate…d ("claymation") advertising characters actually won an Emmy award and released four LPs in the years 1987-1988, including "Meet the Raisins!" on Atlantic. The characters were originally created for a 1986 Sun-Maid commercial on behalf of the California Raisin Advisory Board when writer Seth Werner despaired "We've tried everything but dancing raisins singing (Marvin Gaye's 1968 hit) 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine!'" So they tried it, to enormous success, including a 3-D comic book, a tidal wave of raisin-themed merchandise, even a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon television show. Unfortunately, the Raisin campaign eventually failed when production costs to the raisin growers reportedly exceeded the measurable increase in their earnings. In this entry, the raisins offer Marvin Gaye's "Dancing in the Street"; Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears" and "My Girl"; Holland/Dozier/Holland's "Stop! In the Name of Love," and , of course, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine (Remix)." David Woodford, Saxophone; Dave Marotta, bass guitar. You could not make this stuff up. Reduced from $14.
