Pliures marginales, très légèrement insolées. Par ces trois lettres adressées à un journaliste et formant un remarquable témoignage des relations des artistes avec la presse, le peintre et sculpteur Aimé Millet fait preuve d'une belle honnêteté : «Je ne vous cacherai pas que j'avais été un peu vexé en lisant votre appréciation de la sculpture dans le numéro de la veille [de L'Opinion nationale], de n'y pas trouver au moins mon nom. Et pour un peu, j'allais vous trouver bien mauvais goût. Mais l'article du lendemain est venu me retirer de cette erreur d'un moment pour me remettre dans mon ancienne opinion.» Il lui envoie également une copie du catalogue raisonné qu'il a établi de son oeuvre : «Vous avez bien voulu me consacrer quelques lignes dans votre revue de la sculpture et je m'autorise de celles-ci pour vous envoyer ce catalogue qui vous dira peut-être que je ne suis pas tout à fait indigne de votre aimable attention.» Et même s'il veille constamment à ménager les susceptibilités de son correspondant, il donne son avis, notamment dans un débat opposant certains artistes à l'Administration des Beaux-Arts : «Je reprends le "nous" collectif et puis vous assurer que nous n'avons jamais entendu dénier à l'État le droit, et même le devoir peut-être, de faire son exposition soit triennale soit quinquennale. La question, c'est de ne pas mêler les couleurs, peut dire un sculpteur.» On joint : une carte de visite signée d'Aimé Millet avec trois lignes autographes ainsi qu'une photographie originale (58 x 42 mm environ) représentant l'artiste, contrecollée sur papier. Peintre, il est également sculpteur et médailleur. Formé à l'École royale de dessin et à l'École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, il réalise de nombreuses commandes officielles pour l'Opéra de Paris, l'Exposition universelle ou l'État français. Sa sculpture d'Apollon couronne l'Opéra de Paris.
