Ce poème à peine naissant (il n'avait encore qu'un chant), ne s'étant pas trouvé parmi les poésies de Milieu, échappa au naufrage général auquel il les condamna durant une maladie qu'il croyait mortelle. Revenu à la santé, les instances de ses confrères, celles de l'archevêque de Lyon et les ordres de ses supérieurs le déterminèrent à achever ce poème.
