Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Lightly read. Shelf wear to cover edges. Previous owner name stamped on front cover. Previous owner was Daniel B. Luten (1908-2003), lecturer in geography at University of California, Berkeley from 1962 to 1974. Luten sustained the links between the Berkeley campus and the West Coast environmental movement that date back more than a century, to when Joseph LeConte was instrumental in the startup of both the University of California and the Sierra Club. When he served on the Club's Board of Directors, Luten argued that conservationists, until then primarily concerned with wildland preservation, needed also to grapple with population issues. 133pp.

First Edition
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Hobart, William Thomas Strutt, Government Printer, 1890. Octavo, 60 pages. Buff wrappers with the full title page details printed on the (lightly marked) front cover; light crease to the bottom corner-tip of the front wrapper and the first four leaves; an excellent copy. Although 'Originally appeared in the "Journals of the Royal Society of Tasmania"' is printed on the third page, the full-page note after Ferguson 12614-12616 gives a much more accurate, complicated and bibliographically interesting account of the work, first published in the 'Journals of the Legislative Council of Tasmania', 1856, Volume 1. 'Mr. Dunn of the Dixson Library, Sydney, has made a close scrutiny of the copies of the above-mentioned pamphlets . "So far I have found four versions of these, and there may be more. These notes deal with the differences of content in the various versions [published in 1856, 1859, 1866, and 1890, respectively]. Each of these versions involves considerable differences of material and/or arrangement"'. This present edition would appear to be the preferred one.
