Three uncredited monochrome plates including the frontispiece. The front panel of the jacket has a two inch closed tear at the bottom left corner and two small chips out of the top and bottom edges. Chipping to the top corners and at the top of the spine. The rear panel is a little discoloured with small chips to the top and bottom edges and there is a small tear to the edge of the rear flap. The jacket illustration is by Reginald Mills. Interior illustrations by Gwenyth Waugh including a two-tone frontispiece. First printing.

This is a magazine that was produced to fund raise for the National Fire Service Benevolent Fund in 1944. The magazine is in a very good condition, with cardboard covers. The staples that hold it together have gone rusty, but remain to hold the pages very well with no movement or twisting. The inside pages are in a very good condition with a few age spots, and rust from the staples. The writing and illustrations are not affected by this. The illustrations are in colour/black and white. The inside of the boards has black and white illustrations and a printed letter from Whitehall S. W. 1. - October 1944. For its age this magazine is in a very good+ condition.

John Edward Gunby Hadath (1871-1954) was an English schoolmaster, lawyer, songwriter, journalist, and a prolific writer. He is probably best remembered for his juvenile fiction, of which over two-thirds were set in English Public Schools. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with brown titling and blue and black illustrations on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the boards. The spine is slightly faded and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with a crease running down the rear free endpaper, light foxing to the endpapers and heavier foxing to the half-title page and last page of the book. There is no inscription.
