Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Blazing Light is published to coincide with Mimi Plumbs first solo museum exhibition of the same name (High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia) and brings together three of her major bodies of workThe White Sky, Landfall and The Golden City, and The Reservoirthat collectively contemplate the anxieties of American life in the waning years of the Cold War and its aftermath. In the 1970s, Plumb began photographing as a teenager in the San Francisco suburb of Walnut Creek at a time marked by rapid development of the land coupled with global political and economic instability. Her early artistic life was defined by a burgeoning awareness of global warming, the AIDS epidemic, violent conflict in Latin America and the Middle East, and a looming threat of nuclear war. This atmosphere attuned Plumb to the evidence of such forces in the land, the built environment, and the ways people carry themselves and relate to one anotherconcerns that continue to abide in her work to this day.Plumbs photographs foreground the presence of people, lending her images a greater degree of pathos and even notes of humorous absurdity. Though the artist embraces realism, her photographs are more ambient and enigmatic, inviting conjecture rather than providing documentary information. The publication will include texts by Gregory Harris, curator of the exhibition; Karen Irvine, chief curator and deputy director at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, IL; and Lauren Richman, curator of photography at the Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach, FL.Plumb's work is held in numerous public collections, including the High Museum of Art (GA), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (CA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (CA), Museum of Fine Arts Boston (MA), Yale University Art Gallery (CT), and the Deutsche Boerse Collection (Germany). The Mimi Plumb: Blazing Light exhibition will be on view at the High Museum of Art from February 6-May 5, 2026. The exhibition will then travel to the Johnson Museum at Cornell University, NY (summer 2026), the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, FL (winter 2026/2027), followed by the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, IL (spring 2027). The Reservoir weaves together images of the drying lakes and people seeking a leisurely day at the beach. They bring their dogs, babies and baby carriages, inner tubes, kayaks, rafts, umbrellas, coolers, and tents. As the summer progresses and the waterline recedes, families walk over a mile to reach the beach. At times, the sky is colored with smoke from nearby forest fires. The photographs in The Reservoir are part of an ongoing exploration in my work of how droughts, climate change, and ever-present anxiety collectively maps onto life in the American West." Mimi Plumb\n\nIt could be the last of our days, the way the water is receding, and the sun unrelenting. The reservoirs, once vast and overflowing, shrink before our eyes; the distance to reach the lapping shores growing vaster with every page. Humanity traveling that distance, what was once yards, now a mile or more. Mimi Plumb, in her new book, The Reservoir, follows the trail of people dotting the parched landscape, recording the plight, the pilgrimage, and the reward. The light is magical. The scenes are sublime. The moments are suspended. The sequence of images leads us to the water's edge and lets us decide if we want to keep going or not.\n\nMimi Plumb is part of a long tradition of socially engaged photographers concerned with California and the West. She received a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship in support of her current project, Reservoir.\n\nPlumb will be the subject of a solo exhibition organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta in 2026. Her photographs are in the collections of the High Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Art Collection Deutsche Börse in Germany, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Pier 24, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Yale University Art Gallery. She currently lives in Berkeley, California.\n\nISBN: 978-1-59005-614-1\n\nHardcover, 11.5x13 inches, 68 pages, 41 duotone plates.

She often visited the lookout during the holidays while visiting her in-laws in Palm Desert, obsessed with photographing a tiny sliver of road in the vast San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains below. Her interests expanded to include the people, young and old, visiting the site, seemingly mesmerized as she was by the stark beauty of the landscape. \n\nMimi Plumb is part of a long tradition of socially engaged photographers concerned with California and the West. Tapa Dura. Condition: New. 1ª Edición. No puedo alcanzarlos.
