A fun time is had by all in these fantastical scenes in the great supermarket where only children are allowed. William Ivan Martin Jr. (1916-2004) was an American educator, publishing executive, and author of more than 300 children's books. In the 1960s he was editor in chief of Holt, Rinehart and Winston's school division. Illustrated by William Papas (1927-2000), an author, illustrator, and political cartoonist. He was born in South Africa, the son of a successful Greek immigrant, and lived and worked in England, Greece, Switzerland, and Oregon. He was published in The Guardian, The Sunday Times, and Punch, and had a working association with Oxford University Press. Signed by Author(s).

Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. First Paperback Edition. First UK paperback edition from 1962. Originally published in hard covers in the UK by MacGibbon & Kee in 1959. Copyright date given as 1949 so there was presumably a US edition around that time. Spine has reading creasing, edge rubbing and chipping at the top and bottom with small tears at the top and bottom next to the front cover. The covers have small creases to the corners and light surface marking. The page edges are browned with a small stain to the fore edges and a pen mark across the top edges. The pages are browned with some insect damage to the top corners at the front and back of the book but are otherwise unmarked. First printing. Postage charge will be reduced by £1.50 when the order is processed.

This copy signed by several members of the cast including Helen Hayes, Walter Connolly, Paul McGrath, Salo Douday, Evelyn Roberts, Ruth Hammond and Jack Lynds. Basis for the William Wyler film in 1935 with Margaret Sullivan, Herbert Marshall and Frank Morgan. Reproduced as a film in 1947 as "I'l Be Yours" with Deanna Durbin. Very Good, top spine end worn, few pages darkened from a newspaper clipping of Molnar's obituary, in nearly Very Good dustjacket, some shallow edge loss, modest soiling to white panels.
