Softcover. Condition: Very Good. Two pieces of music, notated by Léo Roy. The first piece is named Indian Lullaby and appears to be arranged by Léo Roy. It is dated to 1929 . At the top is written,' Copy for Miss Mona Bates'. The second piece is 'Mazurka' poeme d 'Emile Nelligan, Musique de M. Léo Roy . The piece is again for Mlle Mona Bates. It is signed on the rear, Léo Roy and dated 9-xii-34. Léo Roy (1887-1974) was a prolific composer, musician and writer from Québec. Most of his works are now held at Laval University archives. He was known, as having set many poems of Émile Nelligan, the well known Quebec poet to music. He also did transcriptions of Iroquois folk melodies. Émile Nelligan (1879-1941), very well known poet from Quebec spent many years in an asylum. The pianist, who received the music is Mona Bates. Ms. Bates was a Canadian pianist, who performed at both Massey Hall in Toronto and Aeolian Hall in New York City. She would later open a music studio and her some of her students became prominent musicians. Interesting item, perhaps something that would benefit from some further research.
