Most of the letters in this collection were written by Walter, after he and Heini had to go their separate ways. An additional fourteen letters were from Heini's friend Walter Mayer. Monica translated these letters and compiled them into two books, My Heartchild and Dear Heini.My Heartchild is a selection of Gertrud's letters, written every second day. The letters reveal her love to her only son and her reactions to the life he described in Sweden. They give a close picture about life as a lonely Jewish woman in Hitler's Germany.
