Hardcover. 2 vols. Smoky blue cloth, gilt lettering, smoky blue DJ, 152 total pp., 254 total BW plates. Translated from the original German and augmented by many new illustrations, this edition offers a mini-set from a fine series written by one of the authorities on the subject of Dutch/Netherlandish painting. These two particular tomes constitute both parts of Volume 9 of the series and focus on the work of painters Joos van Cleve (1485-1541), Jan Provost (1465-1529), and Joachim Patenier (1480-1524). These are extensively revised and expanded second editions, with a far larger corpus of plates than the original versions. Comments and notes by Henri Pauwels with Monique Gierts. Translation by Heinz Norden. Good/Good (foxing spots to text block, light age toning along edges but text and plates are otherwise clear. Dust jacket has light wear with scuffing and fading.).
