Dr. Kirk is an important part of the history of Hendersonville. Originally a surgeon for the U.S. Amy, he came to Henderson country in the early 1900's to recover from tuberculosis. Once cured he set up his own sanatorium and quickly became known as one of the leading physicians in Henderson county. He worked on financial committees to see Hendersonville's streets improved and eventually pushed for a hospital to be built, resulting in the establishment of Patton Memorial Hospital. (Adapted from information found in the book, "Hidden History of Henderson County, North Carolina by Terry Ruscin"). Dark green cloth cover with gold lettering. Deckled edges. Publisher's blue stain on upper edge. 388 pp. Dust Jacket worn at edges, small chips and tears. Mylar cover. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Boards are slightly bowed.
