This book was an outgrowth of Eron Rowland's 1921 article "The Mississippi Territory in the War of 1812" issued in the Publications of the Mississippi Historical Society with, of course, extensive revisions and added research regarding Old Hickory. In addition to this landmark Jackson study, Eron Rowland was the first biographer of Confederate first lady Varina Davis with her two volume VARINA HOWELL, WIFE OF JEFFERSON DAVIS published in 1931 also by Macmillan.
