Sergio Morello was born in Chiasso, in the canton of Ticino Switzerland on 23 February 1937. In Geneva he began studying applied art, moving to Milan in 1963 where he attended Brera Art Academy, obtaining his academic diploma in 1970. In Milan he participated in the student movement of '68, the essential protagonist of the last revolutionary gasp of twentieth-century Europe, deducing the use of painting as an instrument of social denunciation l970/l976. Upon returning to Ticino, the need for artistic expression as an end in itself led him to the liberation of color, first in the self-referential space of the canvas (analytical painting 1976/78) and later in the environmental space through land art installations 1979/1988. 1979 "Colouration" first land art intervention in Ticino under the Castel San Pietro Bridge 1980 "precarious environmental painting and music" classroom magna of the Morbio Inf. Gymnasium 1982 "Bateau ivre" on the hills of Mezzana (Balerna) 1984 "sea in a box" Casa Rusca courtyard in Locarno 1988 "Cassa chromatica" Piazza Boffalora in Chiasso Since 1990 he has considered the need to recompose the narrative continuity of the pictorial language, reconstituting the surface, to recover its specific peculiarity of making the invisible visible. After the water cycle as a natural landscape, he also stitched together the pictorial cognitive process to rediscover the subjective consciousness of artistic work. The latest works symbolically reveal this process through the cuts in the support and their physical stitching since 2012.
