An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by Charlotte Helen Bonham-Carter to Philip Morrell regarding and discussing the Death of His Wife and Friend Lady Ottoline Morrell. Dated 1938 Charlotte Helen Bonham-Carter (née Ogilvy), 1893 - 1989. Daughter of Colonel Lewis Kinloch Ogilvy and his wife Lucy Ogilvy. Charlotte was educated in Eastbourne and Dresden and became a patron of the arts. During the First World War, she served in the War Office as a typist and then in military intelligence and was part of the Foreign Office delegation at the 1919 Versailles Peace Conference. In 1925, at the age of 32, she married barrister and administrator Edgar Bonham-Carter, the son of Sibella Bonham-Carter and grandson of Lady Joanna, and they settled at Radnor Place, London. In World War Two Charlotte was a photographic interpreter at RAF Medenham, becoming an officer in 'Special Duties' until 1943. Following this, she worked at the Foreign Office in the library of the German and Austrian section. In 1946, she inherited the Binsted estates, though continued to live at Radnor Place while becoming Governor of Eggars School in Alton, Trustee of the Wickham Institute, and taking on other roles for other orientated committees. Size is 176mm x 134mm. Condition is good. Light folding crease. Ref19334. Signed by Author(s).
