Soft cover/VG w/light edge wear & faint surface creasings to front/back. First published in 1948; this is an unabridged and unaltered republication of the original. Excellent consideration of traditional, fine Chinese furniture (excluding lacquer pieces). The book is a true joint effort of four kindred spirits who found themselves in the Peking of 1937 - 1938, on the eve of World War II, but where the Sino-Japanese War had already begun. Basic research was conducted house-to-house, and all photographs were taken then as well. The collaborators are George Kates, the Brooklyn Museum Curator of Oriental Art for the text; his sister Beatrice Kates and friend Caroline Bieber selected the pieces and took measurements; and Hedda Morrison took the photographs. Peking's city walls are now gone and houses of old replaced by highrisers, giving this study an added historical dimension. Strong copy despite highlighting.
