    Condition: Quelques rousseurs. ÉDITIONS ORIGINALES RARES DE CES DEUX BROCHURES AYANT TRAIT À L'ÉTUDE DU ROULIS 2 vol. in-8° (221 x 139 mm), 40 et 30 pp., brochés tels que parus avec leur couverture bleue reproduisant la page de titre. Ces deux premières publications de l'auteur, capitaine de frégate puis de vaisseau à l'époque, se basent sur un grand nombre d'observations et d'expériences qu'il a lui-même réalisé sur les différents navires où il a été amené à naviguer. Il signe ici un exposé très juste et fort remarqué des principales conditions qui influent sur le roulis et en particulier du rôle de la résistance de l'eau. Adolphe-Lucien Mottez (1822-1892) entre dans la Marine en 1837. En 1847, il est Second sur la corvette « Expéditive », Station de La Plata. Il est nommé Commissaire impérial, Rapporteur, en 1860 au 2ème Tribunal maritime du 5ème arrondissement à Toulon. En 1869, il Commande le vaisseau-école d'application « JEAN-BART ». Fait Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur le 6 juin 1871, il est nommé Contre-amiral en 1877 et en 1879, on lui remet le commandement de la Division navale de l'Atlantique Sud ainsi que, plus tard, celui des Établissements du Gabon. Il quitte le service actif le 16 mai 1884. Frère du peintre Victor Mottez, ils partageront comme amis les Bertin, les Orléans ou encore L'Amiral Page. Tout comme lui, il est l'auteur de plusieurs ouvrages de techniques maritimes. Le CCFR ne recense que qu'un seul exemplaire de chacune d'elles (BnF Tolbiac). L'OCLL ne mentionne que ceux-ci.
