This work was the most popular English cookbook during the first half of the nineteenth century. It was aimed towards middle class housewives, and includes an early (possibly the first) recipe for tomato sauce, and the first printed recipe for Scotch eggs. Illustrated with a frontispiece, nine plates, and in-text illustrations. Written by Maria Rundell, who is often deemed as being the first domestic goddess. Edited by E. Birch.
