Spotting on front board and significant wear to rear board. Spine edges heavily bent, and board tips slightly frayed. Ownership information on flyleaf. Interior pages in very good condition with no marginalia. Pages are cut somewhat irregularly, probably by the printer, but does not affect the text or plates. Pages have a slightly deckled edge. Contains 7 illustrated plates. This is a series of tales for young people drawn from Mukerji's experiences on a pilgrimmage to the Himalayas, including an encounter with a tiger, a cholera epidemic, a magician, and more. Mukerji won his 1928 Newbery Medal for Gay-Neck, the Story of a Pigeon. He also wrote a number other titles for children, including Kari the Elephant, and also wote for adults, including his memoirs My Brother's Face and Caste and Outcast. Hardcover.
