Age wear to binding, missing eps and 3 pages: 119-120, 191-2, 287-8, small page divot pp. 353-4, sporadic spots of foxing. Children's religious chap book containing stories poems and biblical lessons issued monthly initially published by J. Kershaw in 1824 (V-1). John Mason served as the Book Steward for the Methodist Connection from 1827 until his death in 1864. The office continued under stewards (such as Frederick J. Jobson 1812-81). The magazine ran through mid 19th-century under slightly different titles. The publisher transitioned to Epworth Press for the Wesleyan Conference Office's publishing activities (now Methodist Publishing) concentrating on the works of John Wesley and others.

Illustrated by two b/w Bereau steel engravings of the statues sculpted by Carl Conrads (1839-1920). Only edition. (16,500 copies). Black cloth, gilt print. 4to. pp. 263. Near Fine/No jacket, as issued. One scuff to rear, overall toning with several small old dampstains at fore-edges. The statues of John Stark and Daniel Webster stand today both located in front of the New Hampshire State House in Concord. The John Stark (1728-1822) statue honors the Revolutionary War hero, while the Daniel Webster (1782-1852) statue pays tribute to the New Hampshire native, statesman, and orator.
