Pingrey, of Galt, in the County of Sacramento, was on the 3d day of November, nineteen hundred and twelve, murdered, under peculiarly atrocious circumstance, by an unkown person, and Whereas, the said unknown person is still at large, although diligen effort has been made to apprehend him; Now, Therefore, I, Hiriam W. Johnson, Governor of the State of California, do hereby offer a reward of Five Hundred Dollars" Pingrey "came to California from Illinois with his brothers, Harlan, Albert, Charles and his mother Betsey Pingrey in 1907. Harry was killed in a saloon hold up that occurred in Galt, California while on a trip to the San Francisco Bay area delivering goods for his employer. The robber took a movement by Harry as confrontational and shot him. He died a few days later in a Sacramento hospital."
