Presumed first edition thus in four divisions. 320pp. in division 1; pages 321-640 in division 2; pages 641-960 in division 3; and a title-page, note and pages 961-1279 in division 4. There are numerous black and white illustration, both within the text and on plates (some folding, in each volume. These book were also issued in a two-volume edition. They consist of two works on the history of Glasgow, the first being a reprint of John M'Ure's Glasghu Facies: A View of the City of Glasgow that was originally published in 1736. The second work - The History of Glasgow from the Earliest to the Present Time - has been written by various eminent authors and forms the fourth and last volume. The books are uniformly bound in the original blue cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the spines and a gold stamped emblem on the front boards. The cases of the books are in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The fourth volume has some white spotting on the front board. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and some foxing on the first and last few pages of each volume together with a little scattered light foxing elsewhere, including marks on some of the plates. There is a small name label on the front free endpapers and a name and date has been written on the top edge of the front fixed endpapers.PLEASE NOTE: This is a heavy set and extra postage will be required for non-UK customers.

Externally sound with fading to the spines, significant rubbing to the extremities of the boards, joints and spine, bumping to the extremities of the boards, and very minimal closed tears to the head of the joints. Front hinge tender to both volumes and starting to the rear with spotting to the endpaper. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages with the odd spot and handling marks. Closed tears to the folding plates. Lacking the majority of the spine labels. Good Only. book.
