Inhalt des zweiten Themenkomplexes sind gesprochene Varietäten des Deutschen, die sich am Rande des deutschen Sprachraums befinden oder gar von ihm getrennt sind. Durch ihre Stellung als Minderheitensprachen bzw. Sprach(halb)inseln befinden sich diese Varietäten im Kontakt mit den umliegenden (nicht-deutschen) lokalen und regionalen Varietäten sowie der jeweiligen Dachsprache: Daraus entstehen teilweise komplexe Dynamiken, die sich auf unterschiedliche linguistische Ebenen niederschlagen.
