Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 431 pp. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, spine is sun faded. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Some discolouration to the corner of page 65, looks like a rust stain, it does not interfere with the readability. Apart from that the pages are clear of tanning and foxing. The 1st Battalion fought in France and Flanders until Oct 1915, before going to Macedonia for the remainder of the war. The 2nd Battalion fought in all the major battles in France and Flanders for the duration of the war. The 3rd Battalion was the Special Reserve Battalion charged with supplying replacement troops to the fighting battalions so was in existence throughout the conflict, but stationed in the UK. The 4th Battalion served in France from Dec 1914 until the end of the war. The 2/4th and 3/4th Battalions were training battalions for the Regiment and as such remained in the UK for the duration. The 5th Battalion went to Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine and Syria. The 2/5th, 3/5th, 1/6th, 2/6th and Cambridgeshire and Suffolk (Reserve) Battalions served in the UK supplying replacements and fresh troops for the Regiment. The 7th, 8th and 9th Battalions fought in France for the duration of the war. The 10th Battalion was UK based supplying replacements for the fighting battalions. The 11th and 12th Battalions fought in France from 1915/1916 until the cessation of hostilities. The 13th and 14th battalions were UK based supplying replacements for the fighting battalions. The 15th battalion was at Gallipoli, Egypt and France for the duration. This structure was common for many of the Regiments at that time, the more populous the region the Regiment hailed from, the greater the numbers of battalions they were able to raise for the conflict. Most had originally consisted of 1st and 2nd Battalions, one service overseas and usually one in the UK. All had a training establishment to provide new recruits for replacements. The Great War accelerated the growth of their battalions. All my books are scanned so you can see what you are buying, also my pricing is inclusive of UK postage and packing. Additional cost for overseas postage.
