The first edition appeared in 1780, bas…ed on the 1772 Neues A.B.C. of Christian Felix Weisse. The work appears to be in a complete state, with handcoloured title page, dedication leaf, 14 leaves illustrating the alphabet alongside coloured vignettes of domestic life, and 3 (of 4) tables of every-day objects on which to practice one's newly-acquired skills. A double-page engraved plate of the entire alphabet bound at the rear of the work probably represents 'Tab. 3'. - Repairs to margins of several plates, alongside occasional old tape repairs to rear and the odd closed tear; a few words torn from Register. Preface dated 1816 bound in after plates but before text, with 4 leaves of what appears to be the preface to the 1780 edition bound in at the end of the work. This ed. not in Cotsen.
