Coleman 237. Shaler, was born in Newport, Kentucky in 1841. He was the State Geologist, and taught at Harvard. Contains many interesting observations on life, manners, and customs of antebellum Kentucky, with notes on slavery and slave dealing. In one interesting snippet of information, he relates the circumstances of his meeting in 1856, with Abraham Lincoln, who had come to visit the boy's grandfather.
