Martin Naboth (Calau 1675 - 1721 Leipzig) studierte Medizin an der Universität Leipzig und promovierte 1701 in Philosophie und 1703 zum Doktor der Medizin. Obwohl seine Interessen hauptsächlich der Chemie galten, entwickelte sich Naboth zu einem leidenschaftlichen Anatomen mit besonderem Interesse an der Anatomie der weiblichen Geschlechtsorgane. Seine wichtigste Veröffentlichung im Jahr 1707 war "De Sterilitate Mulierum" (Über die Unfruchtbarkeit der Frau). In diesem Buch bezieht er sich auf kleine, perlenartige, durchsichtige Gebilde im Gebärmutterhals. Er glaubte, entdeckt zu haben, wie Frauen Eizellen speichern, und nannte diese "Ovarium novum" (neue Eierstöcke). Seine Entdeckung wurde von vielen anerkannt und diese Gebilde wurden als "Ovula Nabothii" bekannt. Erst später erkannte man, dass diese Gebilde Zysten waren, die durch eine Verstopfung der Öffnung der Drüsen rund um den Gebärmutterhals entstanden. Diese schleimproduzierenden Drüsen sind als Zervixdrüsen und auch als Naboth-Drüsen bekannt. Diese Zysten, die häufig vorkommen und kein Anzeichen für Gebärmutterhalskrebs darstellen, sind heute als Naboth-Zysten bekannt.- Papier gebräunt und stellenweise braunfleckig.…
