In original 1/4 navy blue cloth over sky blue covered boards with silver lettering and decoration. Octavo. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Nathan Farragut Twining (October 11, 1897 - March 29, 1982) was a United States Air Force general. He was the chief of Staff of the United States Air Force from 1953 until 1957, and the third chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1957 to 1960. He was the first member of the Air Force to serve as Chairman. Twining was a distinguished "mustang" officer, rising from private to four-star general and appointment to the highest post in the United States Armed Forces in the course of his 45-year career. PROVENANCE Major General Jack Eugene Thomas (1910 -2008) the assistant chief of staff, intelligence, U.S. Air Force, was considered a leading pioneer in U.S. Air Force intelligence. He became a Colonel in 1948, a Brigadier General in 1961, and Major General in 1964, shortly after his appointment as the Headquarters USAF Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence, at the Pentagon. He was one of the first USAF General Officers who was not a pilot or a U.S. Military Academy graduate. General Thomas was the senior intelligence officer for two Air Force Chiefs of StaffGeneral Curtis E. LeMay and General J.P. McConnell. The Major General Jack E. Thomas Award celebrates the unsurpassed intelligence contributions made by General Thomas for over fifty years. Annually, the NMIA awards the "Major General Jack E. Thomas Award" to a USAF-selected recipient for "Exceptional Intelligence Professionalism." CONDITION REPORT The book is in NEAR FINE vintage condition. Colorful boards, sunning to top and bottom edges, toning to top edge. Light rubbing to spine tips and corners else FINE. Pages are clean, bright and unmarked.
