    Quarter Leather. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 316 pages on hand made rag paper with the last 4 pages having a list of the Duchesses accounts for the "Privy Purse" spent during her service. In original 18th century quarter leather with scraperboard patterned paper boards (almost in the Dutch floral style), spine light rubbing at edges, edges & corners worn and paper boards rubbed in places, title and first page slightly darker than the rest of the pages, only mildly so, otherwise all very good. Octavo. 1742. *Historical Note; Sarah Churchill Duchess of Marlborough, Princess of Mindelheim, Countess of Nellenburg 1660-1744. Wife of John Churchill 1st Duke of Marlborough, designer and instigator of the rebuilding of Woodstock Manor (which later became Blenheim Palace). Titles she held under the Queen Anne "Groom of the Stole", "Keeper of the Privy Purse", "Ranger of Great Windsor Park". She was the only woman ever to be given this title and only one of 2 women to hold the "Privy Purse" (The Queen's favourite being the other Abigal Masham). She was portrayed in the 2018 film "The Favourite" by Rachel Weitz.
