Ex-library with the usual library markings (if not for the library markings this copy would be graded in fine condition); no dj; overall a nice used copy! Color illustrated boards with red and black lettering. 363 informative and educational pages! "Professionals, academics, and policy makers in the field of child and adolescent development tend to use theoretical frameworks stemming from traditional classified disciplines of psychology, sociology, political science, economics, education, and social work. This book creates an opportunity for experts to use interdisciplinary approaches and perspectives, and provides evidence-based knowledge to deal with the stresses of children and adolescents living in poverty, difficult socioeconomic conditions, and varied cultures. It also conveys the message that shared understandings can promote well-meaning and well-reasoned intervention success in similar contexts across nations in which children and adolescents are growing up in complex and risky environments. The contributors, from multiple disciplines, weave their knowledge around the development of children in contemporary society. They highlight the necessary conversations that schools, families, communities, individuals, and nation-states need to have and, most importantly, the responsibility for everyone to develop an understanding of the mental-health needs of the new generation.".

Delhi shares the ignominy of destroying daughters in the womb with other well off north western states which is symptomatic of the larger malaise of the low status accorded to women and the denial of their right to life the right to be born to females in this region. The book based on empirical research is a sensitive exploration in to the malaise of sex selective abortions and relative neglect of female children during early years leading to further decline in child sex ratio. Delhi is typical of an anachronism of the educated and well off sections perpetuating the cruel tradition of female infanticide revisiting India in a new veiled form. The crime of female feticide continues unabated despite an act to ban the misuse of pre diagnostic techniques and sex selective abortions. It is tragic to see women becoming a party to the destruction of their own species as they are unable to break out of the vicious cycle of under valuation by others and by themselves. Women crave for the birth of a son who they continue to see as their saviour in an environment that is hostile to females. The civil society needs to mount an offensive against female feticide and deteriorating health and dignity of women who are under constant pressure to ABORT RETRY ABORT to beget a SON. The hope lies in mobilizing the adolescent and the youth to protect their own future. In a world so very concerned about the conservation of biodiversity it is strange that millions of females disappearing each year have yet not caught worldwide attention. The human development reports are silent on this active and passive violence against women their natural and unnatural killing and dissemination. 364 pp.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Children are denied basic human rights worldwide. The cultural and social disadvantage is an ethical and political scandal! A closer look reveals that the struggle for general human rights and the intensive examination of religion are often interlinked. Trygve Wyller (Oslo), Usha S. Nayar (Mumbai) and their internationally renowned team of authors ask how this situation can be improved globally. They expect that religion in particular can make a decisive contribution to the children's rights action plan and discuss positive approaches based on case studies around the world. With contributions by Marcia J. Bunge, Udi Mandel Butler, Yolanda Corona, Annemie Dillen, Marta Maria Espeseth, John M. Hull, Usha S. Nayar, Irene Rizzini, Jone Salomonsen, Alfons H. Teipen, John Wall, Trygve Wyller and Carlos Perez Zavala. In every part of the world children lack cultural and social citizenship.
