A complete edition of a novel by the renowned Ukrainian writer Ivan Nechui-Levyts'kyi, originally written in 1878. The novel humorously portrays the everyday life of a large peasant family and explores how constant struggles over material needs degrade the human spirit. Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, born on November 25, 1838, in Stebliv, Ukraine, was a prominent writer and educator. After graduating from the Kiev Theological Academy in 1865, he taught at various seminaries and gymnasiums. He began writing the same year, with his works appearing in Kievan and Galician periodicals. Another notable comedy work "At Kozhumiaky" (1875), which was later adapted into the play "Chasing Two Hares". Nechuy-Levytsky passed away in 1918 during the First World War and was buried in Kyiv's Baikove Cemetery.
