Frakturschrift. - Aus dem Text: Diese Horazischen Verse, die in den die Kunst und ihre Gegenstände behandelnden… Schriften des 18. Jahrhunderts so oft citiert sind, nimmt auch Eckert in seiner "Parallele zwischen Homers Ilias und Virgils Aeneis" zum Ausgangspunkt und sucht darzuthun, daß "die Homerischen Gebilde, wie Freskogemälde, mehr in einiger Entfernung, die Virgilischen mehr in der Nähe betrachtet werden wollen". Daß im großen und ganzen dies Urteil ein begründetes ist, wird wahrscheinlich niemand bestreiten: ebenso gewiß aber ist es, daß es auch in der Aeneis eine ganze Reihe von Stellen giebt, die eine allzu nahe Betrachtung nicht gut auszuhalten vermögen. Eine besondere Art aus dieser Reihe behandelt Conrads, Quaestiones Virgilianae. Indem er die mehrfach in der Aeneis sich findenden Widersprüche zusammenstellt, zieht er den Schluß, daß der Dichter selbst nur die einzelnen Partieen jede für sich ausgearbeitet habe, daß dann die Verbindung dieser Glieder zu einem Körper durch Varius und Tucca vorgenommen sei. Wir nehmen uns zur Behandlung eine andere besondere Art heraus, die sich folgendermaßen charak-terisiert. Wohl keine zehn zusammenhängende Verse der Aeneis kann man lesen, ohne in irgend welcher Weise an das große Vorbild des Vergil, den Homer, erinnert zu werden. Ahmt ja schon die ganze Komposition der Aeneis die der Odyssee und der Ilias nach. Aber abgesehen davon finden wir an vielen Stellen einzelne Worte, einzelne Sätze, Gleichnisse, ja ganze Scenen und Episoden, in denen wir eine Nachahmung des Homer zu konstatieren haben. Über die Berechtigung oder Nichtberechtigung einer so ausgedehnten Nachahmung zu streiten, erscheint bei der Menge des darüber schon Gesagten überflüssig. Wohl aber lohnt es sich der Mühe zu untersuchen, in welcher Weise Vergil solche Homerische Situationen in sein Werk verwebt hat. Wir stoßen dabei auf jene oben angedeuteten Stellen, in denen das aus dem Homer Herübergenommene bei Vergil in den Zusammenhang wenig oder gar nicht paßt. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 250.
