Ed Appiani può dirsi per eccellenza il Pittore del secolo" (Giovanni Berchet). Andrea Appiani (1754-1817) è stato un pittore, scultore, litografo italiano. Alfiere del neoclassicismo in Italia, fu uno dei maggiori esponenti di quel periodo compreso tra l'Illuminismo e le vicende napoleoniche, grazie alla specificità espressiva del suo stile, vero e proprio trait d'union tra la morbidezza del tratto leonardesco e la grazia del classicismo. Nel 1807 viene nominato direttore della Pinacoteca di Brera. Legatura editoriale, coperta in cartone rigido, illustrata a colori; titoli impressi in oro al piatto e al dorso. Volume con alcuni segni del tempo al taglio e alle pagine interne (ingiallimento).
