Charmingly illustrated by Swedish artist Erik Blegvad in pen & ink throughout the 198 pages, as well as the entire DJ. Orig. published in Britain in 1972, this is the FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, First Printing, from 1973. An EX-LIB copy with the usual stamps, markings, & card pocket in front & rear endpapers, this hardcover has bright red cloth-covered boards with a brilliant gilt red dragon to front/gilt lettering to spine. Condition is Good+: extremely clean, interior pages white & unmarked, light soil to exterior. Binding strong & straight. Fairly heavy rubbing to extremities, down to underlying boards at corners. Front free endpaper has been excised. The unclipped DJ VG+: colorful & bright with some chipping at some corners, remains of old paper call number to lower spine; the old library mylar has been removed & replaced with brand new! Condition is VG+: completely Mild rubbing to extremities, bumped corners, ding in front board at lower edge, with corresponding tiny chip to first few pages in front matter. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. The bottom-clipped DJ also VG+: colorful & bright with just a couple of tiny chips; nicely protected by former owner in nonreflective mylar cover. Some scratches to boards. Covers generally grubby. Joints and some hinges cracked. Frontis is partially detached at the top and has a small tear. One plate is detached but present. Another two plates are partially detached. Erased inscription to box on front pastedown. Endpapers and page edges are browned. Some foxing and fingering. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched.
