Also includes a name pronunciation guide & several pages of famous quotations in rear. Orig. published in the UK in 1907 by Hertel, Jenkins, this is the FIRST US EDITION from D. E. Cunningham of Chicago, same year. Hardcover (6.75" x 9") has matte black cloth-covered boards blindstamped with an elaborate design to front cover & spine, lettered in faded green to both. Condition is VG: quite clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Pages creamy white with moderate tanning, completely unmarked save for old gift inscription to verso of frontis. Exterior shows rather heavy rubbing to extremities, with heavy bumping (& some cloth loss) to corners & both ends of spine.
