"Presented to its customers". 249 Rue St Honore in Paris was the location for the high end fur seller A La Reine d'Angleterre in Paris in the 1920s. In 1921, the fashion house produced this glamourous publicity album, enticing their clients to purchase luxurious fur garments. The styles included coats made from ermine and chinchilla, and the finery had names such as "Longchamps" and "Carmen". Édouard Paul Mérite was amongst the artists who contributed to the decoration of the album. Mérite was a sculptor and painter who had accompanied the Duc de Orleans on two arctic explorations in 1901 and 1909, where he drew polar bears and other polar scenes from life. (A cape in Greenland is named for him). This album fuses opulent art deco with Inuit-influenced borders and scenes in a way that is stylish and eye catching even today. However, no work from Inuit artists was included. 249 Rue St Honore still exists in Paris today. The current tenant is Versace.
