This book resulted from his research on the subject. He traces the arrival of the first settlers from the British Isles, the furniture they bought with them and how the craft of furniture and cabinet making was soon established on a commercial basis. The author depicts the furniture in a houshold setting with accessories, the use of NZ woods and includes a section on furniture in the Maori household. Chapter headings are Colonial Furniture Styles, Shipshape (furniture accompanying settlers), Early Cabinet Making and Household Furniture.
