Seller: Riverby Books, Fredericksburg, VA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Hardcover. Full leather. Spine dry and top layer of leather peeling. Title label flaked off. Binding good and tight, but with some wear to the edges of the boards and hinges. 216 pages. Text block toned from age, but appropriate. Errata slip tipped in at the title page. Title page is signed by an early owner, Dr. James Conquest Cross, of Lexington KY. He has signed J.P.C.Cross 1822," and there is a neat rubberstamp (or perhaps it is even printed in ink) name beneath his signature "Dr. Jas. Conquest Cross. Lexy. ky." There is another, much more recent, ownership name on the inside front cover "G Davis Buckner" or something close to that, also Lexington KY. The earlier owner, Dr. Cross, was a member of the faculty of the University of Transylvania in the 1830s and 1840s. He seems to have had a passing connection to Henry Clay while the latter was a Congressman from Kentucky. Please email with questions or to request photos.
