La publication de L'Encéphale se poursuit jusqu'en 1940. Interrompue par la seconde guerre mondiale, la publication de L'Encéphale reprend en 1946-1947 sous l'impulsion de Jean Lhermitte et de Jean Delay. Lhermitte signe l'éditorial du premier numéro d'après-guerre.
