Furthermore, I sincerely hope it will arouse the reader's curiosity to the extent that he will investigate, as to whether statements made in the book, are true or false. A famous statesman once vice-president of the United States is attributed the remark that, "the right to investigate is a sacred right." In other words search light matter to your personal satisfaction. Off-hand opinions and criticism are not worth much as they do not require any investigation and therefore lack justice. An honest investgation, the investigator has earned his right to an opinion. This privilege is generally understood in America whether the opinion is right or wrong. Investigate is a tip-top democratic key-word for progress, at any time and at any place in America. It is one of the most important words in the American Dictionary. THere is no other word in the ENglsh language that better protects democracy than the word, "Investigate." Perhaps, I may be presumative in this statement. If there is a more appropriate word, pray tell me what it is? It breathes the spirit of freedom from the ground up so to speak. It is a challenge to prejudice, intoerance, and all manner of false propaganda. It is an inspiration to the free thinker of truth, in every walk of life. A most cordial invitation for a free hand investigation of anything social, business or otherwise is a direct challenge to dictation or criticism from whatever source. This is undoubtly a distinctive characteristic of the fair play way of life. If the reader will only investigate I will feel amply paid for my efforts in my campaigning for the place which I shall maintain in the following pages that Vinton County deserves on the Map of the Great State of Ohio. In my own time I have often heard people remark in Vinton County and elsewhere in reference to Vinton County, in derision. Those who are informed undertake to correct this mistake. When the Prince of Peace came into this world about 2000 years ago he invited all to investigate to see if the things he told them were not spoken of the prophets. When the three wise men groped their weary way down through the Judean Hills to the manger in Bethlehem, they went to see for themselves if what was spoken by the prophets were true.
