Published by George J. Baldwin, No Place, 1926
Seller: Heartwood Books, A.B.A.A., Charlottesville, VA, U.S.A.
Cloth. Condition: Good Minus. No Jacket. SIGNED by George J. Baldwin, Lucy Harvie's husband and publisher; a letter from George to the recipient, Fredericksburg physician and relative of Lucy Harvie Baldwin, Thomas R. Boggs, is pasted to the front endpaper. A solid usable hard cover First Printing with some small mouse chewed areas along the spine and bottom edges. Endpapers foxed. Scarce. Georgia born Lucy Harvie Hull Baldwin compiled this significant collection of folk songs before her death in 1923. O'Hare added pianoforte accompaniments. He notes: "The Plantation Songs, and, as well those of the Georgia Mountaineers, were first heard and collected by the gifted woman at their native sources." As is typical with "folk" music, at least one 1867 published popular song is included in somewhat altered form. William Christopher O'Hare, professionally "Christopher O'Hare", was a well-known American composer and arranger of popular music. He was important in bringing ragtime music to the public and composed music for early silent films. George Johnson Baldwin was a rich Savannah based businessman active in mining, railroads, fertilizer, banking, etc. Signed by the Editor.
