First edition. Oblong folio. 69, (7) pp. [printed double-column, in part]. Illustrated from photographs, city buildings, police vehicles, portraits of individual police officials and officers, group photos of policemen; ads for local businesses, some illustrated. Includes a short historical sketch of the city, promotional material for its prospects, a history of the police department from its beginnings shortly after the city was founded in the early 1870s, a sketch of the newly formed Birmingham Police Relief Association, and biographical sketches of police officials and officers accompanied by portraits. Cover title: "Birmingham Police Department." OCLC locates one copy (Birmingham-Jefferson County Public). Front hinge nearly broken, a little foxing and interior soiling, a good copy of a rare book. Original gilt-stamped burgundy cloth (rubbed and soiled, rear board discolored, floral endpapers. (9854).
