A Carnal Affair is a novel chat exposes the manners and morals of love and sex in and our of marriage today. Two contrary lovers pursue their stormy destiny through a sequence of confrontations that intensify into violence. She is an artist, possessed of personal glamourgolden-haired, blue-eyed, passionate, impulsive. He is a diplomat, possessed of worldly power affluent, polished, charmingly jaded. Their illicit love is made more dangerous by the headstrong clash of her commitment to feelings and personal integrity, with his reliance on a life of forms and surfaces, private deceit and disposable human relationships. Sylvia Fraser creates an aura of myth and mystery by interweaving her story with a series of original adult fairytales. Rich in implication, humorous, beautifully textured and deeply symbolic, they lay bare the unconscious forces that compel her characters' lives, and set up reverberations that haunt the narrative." NO DATE = Circa 1960; 191 pages; (410 grams); "He is a miracle of God's grace,' or "it is a miracle of God's power." Such expressions are familiar to Christian people. Too frequent use of the wont miracle makes it lose force and it ceases to arrest attention. But what shall we do with a miracle that shows up at first small, then grows or expands until it virtually sprawls over "the prairies"? A miracle like this has happened, and you may see it. You may walk in and over it; because of it you may meet hundreds of young peo- ple who move about in it. They are young people who breathe, sleep, study and work - down -to earth in one sense, yet live and work tor God and Heaven. They sometimes play in the cold of the severe northern winter and sometimes pray through to God for their needs and the needs of others. They leant to love Canada if it. is new to them, and they also learn to love mission lands beyond the wide, wide oceans to the east and west of them." >> Blank front endpage is missing. Inscription reads To Lara Henry Baker with Best Wishes JHC Anchorage, AK 13 Aug 05. John Haile Cloe, whose encyclopedic knowledge of the military history of Alaska made him the leading expert on World War II in Alaska. Cloe was a student at the Virginia Military Institute prior to joining the Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and was later assigned to the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1970 he became the Alaska Air Command historian at Elmendorf Air Force Base. His office at Elmendorf contained copious and detailed records of U.S. military actions in Alaska during World War II, when Japan bombed, invaded and occupied parts of the Aleutian Islands, as well as records of the Cold War era. In retirement, he used knowledge he'd acquired on base and information gleaned from repositories outside Alaska to produce fastidious research on the Alaska front. He led tours to Attu Island, the site of the only land battle between American forces and an invading army since the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. Cloe worked with the National Park Service to preserve the history of Alaska's war years. He completed the first major history of the Battle of the Kurils, a long-running air and sea assault on northern Japan that followed the Battle of Attu. "Mission to the Kurils" was the result of nearly 30 years of research and writing, and constitutes Part II (per vi)--each work stands alone as complete. . This was the personal copy of Dr. Lara H. Baker who held leadership positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and in the private sector. Lara earned his P.D. from New Mexico State University in 1968, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and intellectual pursuits. He was renowned for his expertise in computers. And his work was featured on 60 Minutes. He always worked to celebrate the greatness of our country. No one was more greatly committed to the cause and purpose of this country than Dr. Lara Baker. The Aleutian Campaign occurred during the early years of the war. What was accomplished there has been obscured by time and overshadowed by the more dramatic events of other war theaters. It was the only campaign fought on North American soil during the war. It was primarily an air war where young men battled not only each other, but also the terrible, unforgiving elements of the stormed-tossed, primeval place. The war in the Aleutians has been referred to as the forgotten war, and the terror of the air battles that were fought in the lonely skies unfortunately have not summoned up the power and the glory of other theaters of conflict as so recently expressed in the movie Memphis Belle. However, those who fought there remember. -- Back cover. The Eleventh Air Force (11 AF) is a Numbered Air Force of the United States Air Force Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). It is headquartered at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Established on 28 December 1941 as the Alaskan Air Force at Elmendorf Field, Alaska Territory. it was initially part of the United States Army Air Forces. It provided air defense of Alaska during World War II and fought in the Aleutian Islands Campaign. It was re-designated as the Alaskan Air Command in late 1945, and became responsible for the air defense of Alaska. Throughout the winter of 1942-1943, the Eleventh Air Force bombed Kiska and Attu whenever possible, although the flyers were extremely handicapped by the almost constant fog which covered the island. At the same time, the bases to the east of Adak were consolidated and built up. In October, the Field Headquarters of the Eleventh Air Force was closed at Kodiak and moved to Davis AAF. A Patrol Wing (PatWing) was a United States Navy aviation unit with the commander of a Patrol Wing known as the Commodore, the ComPatWing or COMPATWING. From.
