Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This book was presented and inscribed to Lady Hazel Lavery on 5th January 1926. It is therefore an association copy. Lady Hazel Lavery (1880-1935) was an American born painter who married well known artist Sir John Lavery and was an influence within Irish nationalist affairs at the time, using her home in London to play informal host to the Anglo-Irish Conference (1921). Her image adorned Irish currency for over fifty years. Lavery was friend to and corresponded with many important figures over the Irish issue including Michael Collins, Kevin O'Higgins and Winston Churchill. Her London based art and literary circle was even greater. It is from one such relationship that this book comes. Sir Sacheverell Reresby Sitwell, 6th Baronet CH was an English writer, best known as an art critic, music critic and writer on architecture, particularly the baroque. Dame Edith Sitwell and Sir Osbert Sitwell were his older siblings. This book from Lady Lavery's Library is inscribed to Hazel by Osbert Sitwell on his own behalf and on behalf of his brother the author. It is presented in a slip case which remains in very strong good condition. The book itself was issued without a DJ in attractive red leather and striped boards. See photographs. More available upon request. The boards have some edge wear particularly at the top and bottom of the spine. The closed book has foxing to the page edges. There is a little on the first few pages but the book overall is a clean, tightly bound copy that sits square. There is some bumping to corners but no tears. We will happily answer any questions and forward additional photographs. Inscribed by Author(s).
