Gothic novelist, traveller, eccentric, Member of Parliament, and collector of art and antiquities, Beckford lived a flamboyant life. His homes, Fonthill Abbey and Lansdown Tower in Bath, are discussed at length. His art collection, most of which is illustrated here, was extensive and fabulous. With many pictures, and essays by many scholars. SIGNED ON THE TITLE PAGE BY DEREK E. OSTERGARD. Marred only by an internal crack, separating the title page and the frontispiece, and some spots on the half-title. Still sturdy, in black cloth boards. Dust jacket has some foxing on the reverse, invisible on the outside. Signed by Author(s).
