A Near Fine copy. A sequel to A Story of the Plains. In his Foreword, Clarence B. Bagley highly recommends reading Ostrander's An Army Boy of the Sixties before reading After 60 Years. Author Alson B. Ostrander (1846-1934) served in Company B, 2nd Battalion, 18th United States Infantry as a private and army clerk. He first joined the U.S. Army in 1864. He later worked as Sealer of the Weights and Measures Department of New York for twenty-seven years. Soon after his retirement from the Department, Ostrander sought to rendezvous with relatives in Seattle, Washington where he planned to spend the rest of his life. After 60 Years is an autobiographical account by Ostrander in which he, now nearly 80 years of age, recounts his journey west to Seattle in the 1920s. Along the way, he revisits historical locations from his past when he was serving in the Army. In the 1860s, Ostrander had traveled to many places on the East Coast and in the Midwest as part of his military service. Among the many places he revisits is Governor's Island, New York; Omaha, Nebraska; Cheyenne, Wyoming; Casper, Wyoming; Fort Reno; Fort Phil Kearny; Wind River Canyon; Billings, Montana; and Sheridan, Wyoming. Ostrander finishes his account in Spokane, Washington.
